Broken washing machine? That’s how you get it going again

It can happen to the best: suddenly you have a broken washing machine. Inconvenient, because without this machine no clean clothes, fresh bed linen and fresh towels. That is why you naturally want to fix the problem as soon as possible. Purchasing new white goods right away is quite a bit. Fortunately, there are also other, affordable options to get the washing machine working again. The defect is often easy to remedy with a new set of carbon brushes.

REPAIR A BROKEN WASHING MACHINE WITH WORN CARBON BRUSHES

In many cases you can cheaply repair the faulty washing machine yourself. Worn carbon brushes are usually the cause of the problem. Signals that point to this:

  • The engine falters;
  • If the washing machine is ticking but not spinning;
  • You hear a crackling sound;
  • If the washing machine is watering but not running.

The brushes come with the motor. Usually the motor is located at the bottom of the washing machine. It’s easiest to get to from the back. Not quite sure where to look? Then grab the manual to locate the engine. Note: first pull the plug out of the socket and turn off the tap before you start opening your white goods. This way you can get started safely.

HOW TO REPLACE THE CARBON BRUSHES OF YOUR BROKEN WASHING MACHINE

Did you find the engine? Then you can start replacing the carbon brushes. Start by disconnecting the wiring first. This is easiest to do with pliers. Carefully pull the wires out of the carbon brush housing with the pliers. Do this for both brushes. Then unscrew the carbon brushes and remove them from the machine. From now on it’s apple egg. Put the new brushes in place, screw them in and install the wires. Tip: Before you start, take a photo that clearly shows the connection. Then you can check if everything is back in place after assembly. All in all, the job is so done.
